HOW TO GO BEYOND SISTERHOOD
TO FRIENDSHIP

Rana Argenio & Lailee Taghdisi

Rana Argenio (founder of luxury bedding start-up 10 Grove) and Lailee Taghdisi are sisters: five years apart in age, working in different industries, and living different lives. When they found themselves living in the same city for the first time in ages, they decided to invest in becoming real friends as well. Read on to hear how they cemented their relationship as adults.

Small Packages: What was the first thing you remember really liking about each other?

Rana: Lailee is herself. She doesn't care about others judging her or questioning what she's doing, who she's friends with, how she spends her time, energy or money. She does what makes her happy, always.

Lailee: Her ability to become truly invested in other people's work. When ANYONE asks for help, she totally submerges herself and takes it on as if it is her own, with all the care and detail in the world. For me, it was helping me with school projects growing up when she had PLENTY of her own work to do.

Small Packages: What's the thing that holds you together? Why has your friendship lasted?

Rana: Well, first of all, Lailee's my younger sister, so despite blood, it's the fact that we know we always have one another's backs. No matter what gets between us, or how much time passes, I know that I can always rely on her, for anything. If it's important, Lailee will do anything in her power to be there for me, and she knows the same of me.

Lailee:  I think we are truly balanced and able to bring a sense of calm to each other. Life happens hard and fast but our ability to take a moment for each other to just cook dinner and hang makes it all normal.

When ANYONE asks for help, she totally submerges herself and takes it on as if it is her own, with all the care and detail in the world.

Small Packages: Tell us something about your girl that she'd be too modest to share. Brag about her a little!

Rana: Lailee's really confident. It's an awesome quality. It means that whatever she sets her mind to, she can do. She doesn't let fear get in her way, ever. If she wants something, she asks for it, or works really hard to get it. That confident permeates and strengthens her personal and professional relationships.

Lailee: She is so dedicated. Whether it’s to work, working out, her relationships, even her friends. She is able to think about the little things that truly make the difference that wow people; don’t know how she has the time to do it all!

I think we are truly balanced and able to bring a sense of calm to each other.

Small Packages: How do you stay connected? (Give us tips!!!)

Rana: We were really bad at staying in touch for a very long time.  First of all, we're 5 years apart, so for a long time, we didn't have a lot in common, and then, we weren't in the same city. There's no excuse, but we'd only speak occasionally; we weren't really in one another's lives. A few years ago, she moved to New York, and we've made a real effort to be better connected, even if our schedules don't permit us to see one another for weeks. We text, Facetime or call daily. If we see something that the other may like, we share it, no matter how relevant it may be. We try to celebrate one another's wins, whether it's with dinner out or flowers. When we travel, we always bring something back for one another so we can both share in the experience. It's all the little thoughts and gestures that have helped us grow closer, regardless of whether we're together or apart.

Lailee: And through food! Trying new restaurants is the best way to experience the world.

Thanks so much, Rana & Lailee!
